Dell Axim X5 audio driver update

Dell has an update to the Dell Axim X5 Pocket PC 2003 ROM version A04 or A05. These machines lose the CyberEar spinner if you (or the OS) turn the machine off while CyberEar is on screen or while Chameleon 2 or Pianalyzer are recording.

A simple workaround is to avoid the machine going off while it is listening. For instance, tap the OK button in CyberEar before turning the machine off. If the machine does go off or for any reason appears deaf, just soft reset (small button on left side). The Dell update cures this problem.

Installing this update cures this audio problem in the machines we tested. Please note that installation of this update is supported by Dell, not RPS, Inc.

This upgrade gives the machine a new audio driver installed into Ram (not Rom) and will need to be re-installed if you hard reset your machine.

Please note that Dell's page says this is for Rom "A00" which is incorrect, the update is for A04 and A05 rom only. If you have an earlier Rom such as A00 through A03 you do NOT need to install this update unless you upgrade to a later Rom.

How do you find your Rom version? Tap Start menu / Settings / System tab / System info
