Pocket RCT Hardware Requirements & Model Recommendations

Pocket RCT hardware requirements
Pocket PC 2000, 2002 (v3.0), Windows Mobile 2003 (v4.2x) or Windows Mobile 5 or 6.*
200MHz or faster cpu, 320 x 240, 640 x 480** or 240 x 240*** color touch screen, microphone and a memory card slot (CF, SD or mini-SD).

Pocket RCT is Geotrust certified to run on Windows Mobile 5 or 6 including Windows Mobile phones. Pocket RCT also complies with all Microsoft Windows Mobile logo certification requirements.

We most often recommend Hewlett-Packard Pocket PCs. See below for specifics.

Makes and models which Pocket RCT users report work fine with Pocket RCT:

Hewlett-Packard iPAQ models.

Palm Treo 700 series (700w, 700wx, 750v etc... any Palm with Windows Mobile 5 or 6 should be ok.)

Most Windows Mobile 5 or 6 phone as long as it has a touch screen and a memory card slot.

Current model best recommendations are HP iPAQ 110/111/114, rx1955, hx2495, hx2795. (we do not recommend the HP iPAQ 200 series, 210/210/214, see below).

The safest hardware for Pocket RCT compatiblity is Hewlett-Packard iPAQ with 320x240 size screen. These models are rated highest by RCT users.

Examples of Pocket PC phones supported: Hewlett-Packard h6300, Audiovox PPC-6600 / PPC-6601, Siemens SX66 / Palm Treo 700 series (see below)***

Hewlett-Packard model number note: HP typically has several models which vary only by the last numerical digit (eg 110/111/114 or 2210/2215). Invariably these models are exactly the same, the only difference is where they are marketed, or the difference in packaging. The machines are exactly the same.

For current users with Windows Mobile 4.2 or older who are updating to Windows Mobile 5 or 6 see RCT upgrade page.

Please note that the Pocket PC computer is not included with our software; Pocket RCT is software only. Pocket RCT comes on a CF or SD card and installs simply and automatically after inserting the card. Installation takes about 20 seconds. We also provide several all-in-one software/hardware packages, see Packages page.

**Recommendations:
200mhz or faster Pocket PCs will be fast enough for our software, but a faster machine will give you a more responsive CyberEar spinner and generally more responsive machine.

***New support for Pocket PC phones with 240 x 240 screens.
Examples of the machines we support: Windows Mobile 5 or 6 Palm Treo 700w, 700wx, 750w series, HP iPAQ 6500 or 6900 series.

Special cases:

We don't recommend the HP iPAQ 210, 211 or 214 since they have a sound input issue.

Hewlett-Packard iPAQ 4700 series. These machines will run pRCT but some older models have trouble keeping sound recording from dying which requires soft reset often. This is a fault in HP's implemntation of Windows Mobile 2003, an updated driver or ROM update from HP solves this problem.

Dell Axim X5 needs an audio driver update to work properly with RCT. See see Axim X5 page.

We do not recommend the HP iPAQ 1700 series because they don't have a user replaceable battery and have poor battery life.

Asus model 626 carried by Dell. This model has had at least two units with microphone/sound input problems, not recommended.

Not Supported:

HP iPAQ 310 Travel Companion (not Windows Mobile OS).

Dell Axim X3 is disqualified because of unreliable sound input.

Palm OS (Palm, PalmPilot, Sony Clie, Visor etc...) are not supported.

Motorola Q and similar PDA phones - does not have a touchscreen.
